A Mexican woman successfully fought off a lion with a machete.

Celsa Aleman, 35, was riding a donkey with her seven-year-old niece near Acapulco when the lion attacked. As the 500lb animal made a lunge for the donkey's legs, Celsa grabbed the knife and started hitting the lion with it. It eventually ran off.

The local government said the lion had escaped from a private zoo owned by a former local congressman. The lion had already killed two dogs and eaten a pig before its attack on Celsa's donkey. The lion was later caught and sedated before being taken back to the zoo.
