A US man has been jailed for the fourth time for breaking into houses and stealing women's socks.
The man, James Dowdy from Illinois, claims he needs psychiatric treatment for his condition.
Dowdy says he cannot control his urges to break into homes and steal ladies' socks. He takes nothing else from the houses. His mother claims he poses no threat, but fears for his safety as she thinks one day he will get shot for entering a property.
Linda Doody said: "He cries to me all the time, he says 'Mum, I hate myself. I'd rather be dead than live like this'. "

James was first caught stealing socks since 1994 and has since been convicted of a string of offences relating to his strange fetish.
