Snappy,

You've put that far better than I ever could!!!

whats wrong with 3inch big gold hoop earrings?
they are a real head turner, door knocker earrings are even better!

My sons will only wear subtle studs or small sleepers.

why? whats the point in them having thier ears piercing if they cant be rocking phat hoops and chandlier earrings etc? so you encourage them to get thier ears pierced but you have restrictions on what kind earrings they are allowed to wear? i bet their mum would love to but them dangly earrings!

If you wish to cross dress - then that is up to you.

Following advice from a member who I PM'd I was advised to make sure they were pierced using good quality studs, so for that reason I didn't let them choose their stud, but had them pierced with 9 carat gold studs. Matthew got a 4mm stud and Andrew a smaller 3mm one. (Matthew chose the bigger one of the two, whereas the smaller one was better for Andrew).

That's awesome. I've actually never given much thought about piercings so this topic is somewhat enlightening.

However, he was perfectly fine, he sat on my knee and the lady gave him a teddy to hold on to while it was done.

Aw, this is rather sweet. It's a little touching.

Let's be realistic here. Something makes me doubt that his sons would opt to look like Madame Galandria. There is something called a taste level, you know.

Colonel, I'm curious if the process was painful at all for your other son Matthew?

No, he wasn't bothered by it at all.

For bigger earrings check out my thread here. It is called "more acceptable choices in mens earrings". I kind of agree guest that men should not be limited in the kind of earrings they can wear. But each person has to make that choice for themselves.

I agree as well, though I think guest was trying to be snippy and sarcastic.

They are healing fine, and yes, it does suit them very much. I think my mother has even been brought round to the idea.

They are both happy with it and have been showing them off to their mum and their older brothers. My parents and my wife's parents will see them tomorrow (as it is Matthew's birthday).

Really pleased that everything went as planned and everyone is happy.

At the end of the day, all families are different and what one dad believes is right for his sons another one will disagree. You know that I agree totally with what you've done (and would be a hypocrite if I didn't). However, whatever perspective other people have, I believe that, as a dad, it's good to hold onto the fact that you were able to raise an idea with your sons, let them make an informed choice for themselves and assisted them to take the action required to turn the idea into reality. Although it's hardly the most profound thing they will ever do, you are also providing positive support to them as they live with the results and consequences of their actions - regardless of widespread acceptance nowadays of males with pierced ears, it's still an extremely visible piercing that does change your appearance.

Just out of interest, I'll always consider it a privilege that I was able to take my son to have his ears pierced and look back on both events as great father to son occasions. I'll also always remember being there when my godson and my two nephews had their ears pierced too. Was this the first time you accompanied your sons or did you go with the older two as well?

I'm actually considering getting one of my ears pierced. It looks like it could be kinda cool.
