Getting slightly worried/scared/everything!!

Postby YummyMummyOf2 on Mon Sep 08, 2008 5:13 pm

Ive just had a complete BLONDE moment ... after trying to get a quote on Direct Line for a new car i realised im going to be giving birth NEXT MONTH ... Thats not very long away!!! i need to start getting things ready!!!! I have washed, dryed and ironed babygrows and vests!!!!

Were still having the argument/discussion about breastfeeding - as im thinking im going to struggle to breast feed this time, like i have done, due to trying to "express" a little, im having to "massage" my boobs like hell before anything comes out ... surely i shouldnt be doing that with only 6weeks to go?!?!

Im also starting to poop myself about the whole labour!!! Im not good with pain ... i managed just with Gas & Air last time, and i did well, but i think its the whole thing that i know what kind of pain is to come and i didnt like it last time ... if it was a constant pain, i would be fine, but because it comes in waves im pathetic!!!

Im also worried that there is something wrong with the baby - due to the midwife telling me when i had my 28week check that the baby wasnt growing as quick as it should be (im a size 6 and 5"2' - so baby isnt going to be huge anyway!!!) ....

And im getting fustrated with hubby, coz he WONT have to "name" Disscusion with me, or tell me if he has thaught of any names, so im suggesting names, and hes just pulling a face at them all ... apart from Sophie - he likes that!!!
Any ideas how i can get these worries out of my mind?! or anyways to just kind of "get on with it" ?????!!!!!!!!!

Hi!!!

I think absolutely everything you've described is totally normal for someone who's so close to giving birth! These anxieties are completely expected, and I didn't want to read and run.

I gave birth to my first child 4 weeks ago, and worried about most of the things you've mentioned. I had absolutely no leaking from my breasts before I had my son, and also worried that I wouldn't be able to breastfeed. But my son latched on within an hour (after a 32 hour labour, and emergency c-section, which can cause problems with breasfeeding), and went for broke...he weighed 7lbs 14ozs at birth, and is now probably well over 10lbs.

He is such a gannet, and although my boobs were sore for the first week, if you can grit your teeth, and get through it, it is absolutely the way forward. I love the content look on my son's face when he feeds, it's so nice just to cuddle him, and know that I'm the only one who can console him when he is crying out of hunger, and there's no need to get up in the middle of the night to worry about sterilising everything, and warming his milk up, etc.

I was also obviously worried about the labour. I had already decided that I just wanted to nip into hospital, have bubs, and come home a few hours later...but obviously all went wrong. I was open to anything, and did not rule out a certain birth, or was not too proud to admit that I might need stronger pain relief. I managed on TENS, paracetamol and Gas and Air until 7cm, then had Pethidine, had an epidural at 9cm as baby was distressed, and ended up have section.

And as you know, babies come in all shapes and sizes, and without x-ray eyes, they really cannot tell the size of a baby. They can estimate bu feeling, but it is not that accurate. My friend was told her bump was a good size, and her baby was 6lbs two weeks overdue. My sister-in-law had a scan that guessed her big baby would weigh almost 11lbs, and he came out 9lbs 7ozs. In another forum I visit, this happens all of the time, so I really wouldn't worry, especially if you are petite yourself!!!

Can't suggest anything about the names though. We had these "Discussions" several times about the spelling of the names we liked when we eventually agreed on names. My husband won in the end....it's not often he wins an argument, I'll give him this one!!!  :D

I know it's easier said than done, but really make sure you rest, why not book yourself in for a pamper treatment to relax your body and mind? Hope this has helped somewhat, remember your crazy hormones will be playing a massive part in your anxieties! Good luck for the birth xxxx

Hi
Thanks for your message - its most deffinatly hormones, but i think i was so relaxed about my 1st preg/labour that this time is the worry of KNOWING what to come rather than not having a clue!!
Im looking forward to having a baby again, as my daughter is 2 and little miss independant!! but just not looking forward to the labour!!!!
Im sure everything will be fine... My daughter was 7lb 15.5oz so she was a very good size for me :)
Im seeing the midwife on thursday, so i will ask her if she can see if its growing etc, and explain i have these little worrying moments - see if she can make me feel any better!!! :) xx

hi all i went to see midwife yesterday... everything is fine APART from the baby being breech and lieing back to back which is COMPLETELY wrong!!!
I have two weeks to try and manipulate it to turn around and do a somersault!!! so ive been told when ever the baby is having a good move about to get on my hands and knees with hubby behind me moving my tummy around trying to get it to move its head down!!!!
Im sure everything is fine, and it will move down and round... apart from that everything else is fine and she said she cant see why should wouldnt expect me to have a normal delivery :)

It hurts trying to turn a baby! I thought that hurt more than labour to be honest

I am not trying to put the shítters up you more, but you will most likely find your second labour to be more painful than your first.

Afterpains are something too. Because your uterus is stretched from first pregnancy - it is harder to get to it's size after birth. That hurts for 2 days tops, and paracetamol can help you cope with that.

However, you may be different and have it pain free afterwards!

You will be too loved up with new baby to care though!

my baby has turned posterior too
He was doing so well head down, facing my back but all of a sudden he prefers back to back. I have been on my hands and knees a lot and making sure I don't slouch at ALL
hopefully he turns before I go into labour. I hear that it can triple the length of labour and makes the pains more intense and bad backache that doesn't go away like contractions to give you a "break"
ugh!

I had constant pain when I was in labour with my youngest. He was facing the other way and I prefer it that way! I don't like labour that has a contraction, then goes, then comes back and so on.

It was fantastic :D Yeah, I was in pain for 2 hours solid (That's how long my labour lasted) but that was it. At least I didn't have the surprise of the next one coming and me needing to suck the gas! I had it stuck on my face all night

As much as labour hutrs, it is soon forgot when youhave your baby in your arms.

See, my waters have never broke on their own. With my oldest they broke them to try and speed up contractions. Middle baby was born in the sack (yuk!) and youngest had to be broke when I was 8cms dilated.

I was ready to push at 8cm, couldn't do anything to stop it happening either! So they had to break them and stretch me to 10   Doesn't sound very pleasent! But I didn't feel anything

You will have a wonderful story to tell after you give birth this time, I'm sure

My first labour was 16 and a half hours. Secon was 42 minutes (From first contraction to last push), although with her, they thikn I had a silent labour, cos I only felt pain once I felt the urge to push. My youngest was 2 hours.

i'm due on the 30th and it's the 14th today so 17 days
I've been spending lots of time on my hands and knees trying to get him anterior and it works, but then he flips back over when I stop
You guys are craaaaaaazy wanting constant pain!! I'd rather have the breaks. No pain relief for me though (homebirth)
