Hi Guys

Listen don't worry to much about children wetting the bed....this can be normal till the age of 6.

My daughter Katie is 6 and has a bladder problem in the sence it has been slow to grow and this causes her holding problems....when she needs to wee she has to go right away or within about 2 - 3 Mins she will have peed herself.

Katie also wets the bed most nights and wears Terry Nappies and Plastic pants to bed. Katie does wake up alot bursting to pee but most of the time when she sits up or stands up to got to the toilet she will start to pee herself.

Katie wears a disposible nappy if we go out somewhere we don't know where the toilets are or im taking her into town on the bus which is a 40 mins journey. I must stress if Katie needs to wee i will always attempt to find a toilet for her even when she has a nappy on.

I hear it so often while out where kids ask to go to the toilet and the parent says to the kid its okay you have a nappy on, or just pee in you nappy just because they are Lazy....It makes my blood boil. Don't get me wrong i have a few time told Katie when she has asked to go to the toilet just to use her nappy but always explain why....because i know there is no toilets anywhere nearby or we are on the bus with 1/2 hour to go...i know she will be wet within minutes anyway.

I agree with most of your comments - I have an 8 yr old who still needs a night nappy because of a small bladder and although wakes most times when needing to pee doesnt usually make it to the toilet which caused her some distress when we have tried without nappies and resulted in her not sleeping properly worrying about having an accident -so out came the terries and Plastic pants but when she woke needing to pee trying to get to the toilet and removing the nappy to pee which resulted in wet floors, wet nappies and an upset child. After a couple of weeks of this we gave up. Although she wets in her sleep when she does wake up in the night needing to pee she has to try to hold it and sit up in bed and make a mark on a chart before doing it in her nappy and going back to sleep. Similarly if she wakes in the morning and is dry she marks her chart accordingly.

I put katie's nappy on her so that it is a little loose and can be pulled down like pants so it only take a few seconds to get the nappy off if she makes it to the toilet....she does wet many of the times when she wakes bursting when she gets out of be and starts walking to the toilet if this happens i just let her finish in her nappy.

if your daughter wakes dry does she take her nappy off or does she need you to do that for her and would she wet herself if she woke dry or wet but bursting in the morning...whats your rule on it?

Katie is to ask to go to the toilet if she is awake and needs to pee even if she has a nappy on but i know katie has peed herself in the morning at times.

what do you do for long journeys etc....is your daughter generally ok or does she have issueslike katie where if she needs to pee she needs to go right away or she will wet herself.

If my Daughter wakes dry she doesnt usually remove her nappy due to other reasons, those being the same as why leaving her nappy loose so she can pull it down like pants is not an option at the moment. Having said that she does remove it herself when she is asked to.
If she wakes dry she marks her chart but if she is bursting will wet her nappy, On the occasions she wakes dry and she isnt bursting or had other issues then she removes her nappy and pees in the toilet.
On long journeys she wears a nappy and if going somewhere like the cinema or into town she wears trainer pants and plastic pants.

I have a soon to be 8 year old daughter that wears terrys and pull on plastic pants to bed each night and they are wet each morning. I also know 2 other mums who also use terrys and pull on plastic pants at night with older bedwetters.

Bedwetting is not uncommon at all and a lot of it is waiting for a hormone to kick in that makes our bodies produce less urine at nights. Hnag in there. This to will pass.

How are you guys?

Katie wears a size 6 pampers when out in town or at the cinema etc as she has a short warning time of a couple of minutes to find a toilet or she wets herself.

I will alway look for a toilet for Katie when she says to me she needs to go right up to the point she tells me she has peed herself if she does'nt make it.

does you daughter wet in the day too due to a short warning time?

so on long journeys like Katie your daughter wears a nappy if she says that she needs, do you tell her to just use her nappy or do you pull over at the road side or carry a potty in the car.

I took Katie to the Zoo today, She had a ball but when she asked to go to the toilet we found a big que... Katie lasted only a few minutes until her nappy was wet but i knew she'd wet when i seen the length of the que, these type of places are murder for katie as she will wet herself within 2-3 mins of needing.

Katie is much the same really, She woke last night bursting and peed herself as soon as she stood up.

Yes my oldest daughter is still dry, has not even had an accident fo any kind. Amazing how she just stopped wetting her bed like that. My youngest still wets and wears the night time nappies and plastic pants, wet each morning.

How has Katie been doing, still slowly improving I hope.

Hi mumofkatie, what a relief ive found this site, i have a 7yr old daughter, who i love more then anything in the world, but i still have to nappy her for bedtime, which i can cope with as children grow out of it, in different stages, but my daughter still suffers from bladder control in the daytime, which ive had to resort back to the daytime nappy if we leave the house. I feel like iam failing as a mum, but if i dont nappy her, she is wet through. Luckerly, she can still fit into tesco disposable nappies, which makes life alot easier for when ever we are out the house.how do you guys cope, all advice would be very gratefull.

hi emma, sorry for late reply. You are not failing as a mother because you still have to nappy your daughter, you are doing whats right by yourself and your daughter for protection. All children grow out of it in different stages, and their bladder development takes time. You are not alone, there are thousands of children who still need the surpport of nappies. Where i work, i see many children the same age of your daughter,and older, who are still wearing nappies in the daytime due to different problems. You are not alone on this matter, its very common. my two children are still in nappies for bedtime, and if travelling at night time, or where they get chance to sleep, i still nappy them. So dont worry emma, you are doing a good job.

Don't worry has said everything I could say. I have a 8 year old that wears nappies at night and when she will fall asleep. Mostly we use terry squares and plastic pants, sometimes on trips and travel disposables. Your are doing a good job. Be patient and this to will pass.

Have you had her to the doctors?

Katie has a small weak bladder for her age and can't wait more than 2-3 mins when she needs or she pee's herself. At home this is no problem she is near a toilet but when we go out this is a differant story. Katie will wear training pants (cloth type with plastic coating) when out and i know there is toilets easily avalable and a pamper nappy if a don't know where there is a toilet. If Katie asks to go i will look for a toilet for her up until she says its to late if she has an accident or we find a toilet.

If your daughter has a nappy on either in the day or at night and finds that she needs to pee will she ask to go to the toilet or just pee herself?

If your daughter asks to go to the toilet when out and has a nappy on do you take her to look for a toilet or do you tell her to just use her nappy and pee herself?

Hi guys, i have a 13yr old daughter who recently has justed started wetting the bed again. At first i didnt let her no, i knew she was wetting the bed again. After a few weeks i decided to have a chat with her, to find out what may be causeing the bedwetting, and to let her no, it wasnt an issue. After a long heart to heart, i asked how she felt about going back into nappies, and she didnt mind, as it would stop her wakeing up with wet bedding and pajamas. I decided to put her back in boots staydry disposable nappies, with plastic pants over the top. Do you guys think its right to put a 13yr old back in nappies, and is it the right thing to do.

If she agrees to it with out pressure from you then yes it is the right thing to do.

It's rare for a 13 year old who has been reliably dry at night to revert to bedwetting.

It could be a psychological stress reaction or there could be a medical problem. I'd start with seeing a GP and following up with a urological consult if indicated -- for which I'm sure she will have little enthusiasm.

A visit to an adolescent psychologist may be indicated.
