Shahrukh Khan next role is a very transparent character he plays a ghost in his forthcoming movie directed by Amol Palekar.
There was a lot of speculation as to how the pairing of such an odd pair as Shahrukh and Amol, would work, but Khan himself holds no such reservations as he dismisses all the speculation, commenting to the press, Amol Palekar had written the script, he liked it, it's a good story, why the concern.
What is still under wraps is the nature of the film, will it be a ghost story or will the character be one of the central figures in a drama.
Shahrukh plays a double role in the as-yet to be named film, in one of the roles he plays Rani Mukerji's husband, in the other he's cast as a ghost.
After his highly rated performance in Swades, Palekar's film is expected to give Shahrukh another chance to go beyond his image.
Although it should be noted Khan came close to a ghostly role in Chamatkar where Naseeruddin Shah had played a spirit while Shahrukh had co-starred as a simpleton who comes in contact with a ghost.
More recently Isha Koppiker and Aftab Shivdasani had played ghosts in Krishna Cottage and Shukriya respectively.
Amol Palekar had all but confirmed Nakul Vaid,in the role but the gifted young actor who played the rookie in Shimit Amin's Ab Tak Chappan, showed little or no interest for the ghost's part thus leaving the way open for Shahrukh.
Like allambitious directors, Amol Palekar has no fears about switching to a more adventurous and testing project given the opportunity, and with Shahrukh Khan on board it will certainly guarantee a large following for the Palekar film.
