Daniel Day-Lewis' Italian job

Daniel Day-Lewis can't stop speaking in an Italian accent.

The Oscar-winning actor - renowned for his love of method acting, where he refuses to come out of character in between scenes - has reportedly been amusing co-stars Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren and Penelope Cruz with his constant accent on the set of musical movie 'Nine'.

A source close to Irish star Daniel, who plays director Guido Contini in the new film, said: "He's always waving his arms and telling the chef to whip up some pasta!"

Daniel recently revealed he is sick of people misrepresenting his acting methods.

He said: "People think I'm into some form of sophisticated sadomasochism most of the time, but that's not my experience at all. It is a thoroughly joyful thing to work.

"If you are trying to imagine a world, you use whatever means you can to stimulate the imagination. That's the basis of method acting."

Daniel famously learned to lower the needle of a gramophone onto a record with his feet for his role as cerebral palsy sufferer Christy Brown - who could only move his left foot - in 'My Left Foot'.
