Pete Carvell Interview

5 months ago 13th May 15:29

'We play anything with energy behind it, and it’s great to have the opportunity to read a crowd and give them what they want.'

Their heavily distorted sounds are known to transmit an explosive energy on the dance floor, so much so that the Ibiza Rocks’ sound technician at Pacha nearly shit himself.

'He was obviously used to nothing more than pretty tame house music being spat out of his system, so we shocked him with some of our sounds and sub bass at the peak time of our tracks. He came running over desperate to adjust our levels,' explains Pete.

Pete’s unique 'Gash family' is multiplying, and this month celebrates the first release from their record label, Deluka.

'We are signing up a selection of up and coming bands and releasing tracks complete with a strong remix package,' he says.

This may not be an unfamiliar concept, Modular and Kitsune have delivered exclusive remix packages alongside their releases, but Pete insists Gash Digital is one of the few digital only labels out there.

Deluka’s first track ‘Ike and Tina’ is accompanied with remixes by Gash DJ's, Arveene & Misk, Jim Da Mentalist Vs Suxx and Fabian.

Among the bands on the label is a London act called Vote Show Pony, who Pete says he has 'fallen very much in love with'.

He adds: 'Many people are comparing them to Goldfrapp and their lead singer has a beautiful voice. Their tracks lend themselves perfectly to the dance floor.'
