50 Cent plans to "reinvent the hip hop wheel".
The rapper is set to release a new album, 'Before I Self-Destruct', and says he has a much tougher time than his contemporaries when working on new material because they can just copy his old achievements.
He told Rolling Stone magazine: "Other rappers can take what I've done for the last five years and do their version of it and be successful with momentum. Meanwhile, I have to reinvent the wheel."
50 - real name Curtis Jackson - also claimed he isn't listening to any other music at the moment so he doesn't get distracted from his own work.
He added: "I'm not really listening to anyone else's record. Now I'm in another space where I gotta make what I'm excited about."
'Before I Self-Destruct' is expected to be released later this year.
The rapper's last release was 'Curtis' in 2007. Despite vowing to quit music if Kanye West's 'Late Registration' beat him to number one in the US album charts, 50 failed to carry out the threat.
