Franz Ferdinand's new album is much "softer" than their previous releases.
The band's drummer Paul Thomson has revealed the Scottish rockers have taken a more relaxed approach to the recording of their upcoming LP, and that attitude is reflected in the songs.
He said: "The thing with the last album is we came straight off a tour and then went into a studio and it felt like we hadn't even stopped to take a breather. That's reflected in the tempo of those songs,
"With this one, we took some time off and then got back together again and started playing. I think it comes naturally to play a bit softer now."
Thomson's bandmate Alex Kapranos recently claimed the album, the group's third studio effort, will have an African influence.
The singer said: "We're one of these bands that are always going to sound the same no matter what we do, but there are other influences there. I guess the drums are a little different, Paul has been listening to a lot of African stuff so that's going to come through."
