Boys forget the impressive job titles, the flash cars and the expensive dinners, what women really want is a man who’s good with his hands...and no we don’t mean like that! According to a new survey from woodcare specialist Sadolin, today’s modern gal would rather date a DIY handyman than a high earner.

Researchers discovered that 59 per cent of us ladies preferred a hands-on guy who is good at manly jobs than a rich partner; while three quarters said they would be more attracted to someone with a practical job over a professional, office-based one.

So that’s great news for plumbers and gardeners - 65 per cent would rather date a gardener than a lawyer - but not so great for accountants and stockbrokers. The poll also revealed a staggering 95 per cent of women would be turned off a bloke if he couldn't do basic home improvement jobs around the house.

One in ten has even dumped a man because of his lack of DIY skills, while another 19 per cent admit they would if their partner was useless at manly tasks.

But, while a third of women admit they like their man to be good at odd-jobs around the house because it saves them getting in a handyman, 32 per cent say it's because it makes them feel looked after. Another 15 per cent say they find it sexy.
