Belgium's King Albert reportedly considered leaving his wife while he was having an affair with the mother of his illegitimate daughter.
Delphine Boel claims her royal father was ready to divorce Paola in 1969, a year after she was born, but her mother Sybille Baroness de Selys Longchamps - whose husband was Belgian industrialist Jacques Boel - persuaded him not to.
In her new autobiography 'Cutting The Umbilical Cord', Delphine also reveals she and her mother moved to London in 1976 after the Belgian royals "suggested that it would be desirable that I disappear".
The 40-year-old artist says Albert visited regularly when they were in London, but she did not know he was her father.
Delphine's existence was made public in a 1999 biography about Albert's wife, who became Queen Paolo in 1993.
Delphine claims she called the king following the revelations, only for him to tell her: "You must never call me again. I want to hear nothing of this whole thing any more. Besides, you are not my daughter."
In the book, published yesterday (09.04.08), Delphine blasts Albert for his failure to acknowledge her, writing: "What sort of father is it who does not live up to his responsibilities and does not come to the aid of his daughter when she is harassed? You are responsible for the child you produce. You do not abandon it. That is what my father has done."
