John Kear says he would love to bring Paul Sculthorpe to the club.
Saints will not offer the 30-year-old a new deal at the end of the season.
Paul Sculthorpe, the only man ever to win back-to-back Man of Steel awards, joined Saints from Warrington 10 years ago. Scully will end up with Wakefield Wildcats if he has any say in the matter. He has made no secret of the fact that he wants to play alongside his brother.
But in recent years the former Great Britain captain has suffered a string of injuries, including a knee reconstruction, and he has only managed 12 games this season.
Kear admitted Wakefield would have to bear this in mind when considering any bid for the player.
Sculthorpe had also been linked with Salford, who are coached by Shaun McRae, the coach who signed him for St Helens.
